God Bless Milk & God Bless Me
is making mamma crazy. In the Night Kitchen is fantastically surreal (and apparently controversial) childrens book about a boy named Mickey. Catcher got it for his birthday on Sunday and I swear to god, I have read it to him at least 10 times a day. Our bedtime routine used to consist of me reading 10 different books, now I have to read him In The Night Kitchen over & over & over & over….I want to shoot myself. But the kid loves it, so I’m game.
***It is a really cool book- I had never even heard of it before and you think I would have had the chef kid’s book market cornered.

I’ve never heard of it either and you’d think I’ve got that market cornered too considering I teach 2nd grade. I’ll have to check it out.

Thank you - I have been trying to remember the name of this book ever since my son was born. I read it for the first time in second grade, I think, but our teacher took it out of the classroom library once she discovered that the main character was naked. Admittedly, that may be the only reason I liked the book.

I love that book. Maurice Sendak is one of my favorites (and Kade’s).

This was one of my absolute favorites as a child and I still have my copy from a zillion years ago that I gave to my daughter. She also loved it when she was three. We have a number of really great kids books in our home that no one else ever seems to have heard of!

I’ve never heard of this book but I’m so glad that I am finally in the know! My niece’s 2 year old birthday just passed and I think this book is perfect for her and her 4 year old brother! Thank you for sharing. I am so excited now! Are there any other kids books about food and cooking? If there isn’t there should be!

One of my husbands very favorite books is Where The Wild Things Are, I am surprised I’ve never heard of this book…This looks like a must have for our collection. Thanks

I love the cover, I had never read it however or saw it before today. Only adults would have issues with the child wearing cake batter in stead of clothing, a child would either not notice it or find it funny. I find it rather amusing myself.
BTW the way we made a Cleveland Trip yesterday and stopped by the restaurant only it was too early and not open yet for business. I was on a quest for a “Pasta Platter” for a cousins wedding shower. Oh how I miss the old neighborhood… Cleveland = home!

It is an awesome book, kid of trippy (which is always fun for mommy). Michele, so sorry they weren’t open, you’ll have to try again soon!

This book,( along with anything else penned or illustrated by Sendak) is one one my favorite reads for kids, and myself. I have another little one called HIGGELTY PIGGELTY POP! OR THERE MUST BE MORE TO LIFE that I’ve saved from my childhood - I’ll spare you from the publishing date. It is absurd and I have not seen it around anywhere ever - must have spawned controversy….big eye roll. I’ll bring it for you next time I’m in BC.

Hi! I recently found your blog and love it! My husband and I visited Bar Cento for the first time this past Friday–it was fantastic, we’ll be back often. We’re already telling friends about it. And I loved this post. In the Night Kitchen was our daughter’s favorite book (she’s 7 now) and she had it memorized before she was three years old. Now it’s becoming one of our son’s favorites, too! It’s funny to find someone else who loves this book!
