The Reveal: The Chef Takes the Cake

Published in Widow Marries by chefswidow

Remember how we were celebrating last week?  Well this is why…

The Chef was honored with the title of Best New Restaurant for this month’s Northern Ohio Live.  He also received honors in 5 other categories: Best Pizza, Best Bar, Best Appetizer, Best Chef, Best Late Night Dining.

I am so so so so so so so proud of him. I just went to Borders and bought them out with tears streaming down my face.  Shit I’ve got tears streaming down my face right now.

He is such an amazing man.  Everything he does, his 15 hour days, his time away from us, it’s all worth it when something like this comes out.  He deserves every bit of it.  He works hard, he makes amazing food, he’s passionate, and he cares so much about the industry and the chefs in our fantastic culinary scene in the Cleve.  I absolutely adore him.

The one word that covers everything about Chef, and Bar Cento:

    OUTSTANDING.

I must say that a dozen times everytime I’m there.

Fantastic. Jonathan and you, Amelia, have made dining out a much more enjoyable experience in Cleveland. I have this hidden “Bar Cento” scale that every other restaraunt gets graded on. And the Chef deserves all of the accolades. See you both on 8/11.

Congrats! I am holding THAT issue in my hands, just came in the mail today.

My girlfriend told me about your blog today at the pool. Nice. I’m also in Cleveland. Must go out for pizza with the girls soon. ;)

My parents just called with the super splendid news! Congratulations to you both!! Another celebration may be well deserved. I couldn’t agree with Northern Ohio more!! Now if there were just a way that I could enjoy some of Cento’s deliciousness sooner:)

This is awesome and so well deserved. I fear you ruined us on other Cleve dining since we came to you so soon after we moved here. Ever since then when we go out we ask “restaurant we haven’t been to but we hear tons about or Bar Cento?” 9 times out of 10 Bar Cento wins. I absolutely love the food and the vibe that you and your chef have created there. I couldn’t agree more with the accolades.

    Congratulations!

Amelia, I am sooo happy for you and Chef Sawyer! What success! And you both deserve every ounce of it. Just promise with all this new fame you won’t stop blogging. But seriously I’m grateful to your husband for bringing a culinary scene to Ohio. Great work!!

Really fabulous and well-deserved. Johnathan’s passion and dedication to his craft is palpable. Congratulations. I want some of those Bar Cento fries for breakfast.

  22. Diane on August 3rd, 2008 11:37 am

Awesome! This is well deserved recognition! Cleveland’s restaurant scene is all the richer for having your hubby cheffing in our town.

Is this the secret you referred to a few posts ago?

  23. C Ep on August 3rd, 2008 8:15 pm

We were excited about Bar Cento before it ever had a name, had served a dish, or opened a bottle of wine because I had been to Parea and knew how amazing the chef’s food was. Then learning about his passion for just the kind of food that I love made it even more tantalizing when we knew you guys were opening in our neighborhood.

Then, when we got to eat there, it was even better than expected, and the chef’s clear joy in his work and generous nature made the place a destination that I just could not say enough about.

We love the place and, budget and time permitting, I would eat there pretty much every day if I could.

We are so fortunate to have you guys here in Cleveland and you deserve everything you have earned. The fact that you are both so friendly, humble, charming and kind makes it all the better.

    Cheers to you both!

    C Ep and the Mrs.

Congratulations! Thanks for sharing this with us! I’m so excited for you and your family! It’s hard being a chef. It’s even harder being chef’s wife. Hard work and patience really does pay off!

  28. Michelle V on August 4th, 2008 3:21 pm

Congrats to both of you – that’s amazing!! We were just there on Friday and had a fabulous meal. Of all the places, I’m so excited it went to Bar Cento!

  29. Leslie on August 5th, 2008 9:56 pm

Congrats to you and Chef! I apologize for the delay on this comment. It was a pleasure meeting you (and Chef) last Thursday at BC (I was at the end of the bar with my colleague). I look forward to returning to Bar Cento and continuing to read your amazing blog!!!

  30. Linda Griffith on August 9th, 2008 3:04 pm

Hooray, hooray…don’t know why it’s taken me so long to post this, but you know how thrilled Fred and I are about this awesome recognition. We certainly eat there often enough, except for the least couple of weeks…now that I have to eat my tomatoes!

It couldn’t happen to better people! May it happen next year, too!

Lots of love to you both…

    Linda & Fred Griffith
