My favorite cook in the whole world is my Mom– in addition to starting me down my own foodie path of inquiry, she is the epitome of flexibility in the kitchen. She can prepare anything from a gourmet roast to a 50s style casserole with equal aplomb, and people always love her food. And from her, I inherited the desire to experiment, and the very real need to ensure that no visitor to my house ever leaves hungry.

My favorite, hands down, Julia Child. For multiple reasons, her unmistakable voice, her ability to laugh at herself, her fearless cooking techniques.

Does this count … my kiddos are my favorite chefs. Their love for mixing and creating is just a joy to watch. (Not so much a joy to clean up after them, but). There is something very special about their pride in having created something for the family to eat, whether its pancakes from scratch, homemade soup or even just finger foods to snack on.

I have a few favorites, but lately I’m loving James Beard’s American Cookery… he includes
lots of fats and butter and it makes me oh so happy. The recipes are easily adaptable as well!

I really enjoyed reading The Soul of a Chef by Michael Ruhlman. It gave me great for Michael Symon and Thomas Keller. It’s even better having since met Symon and eating at his restaurants many times.

I love watching Paula Deen, especially when her sons are on the show with her. She seems like she is having a great time in the kitchen. I think it’s great that her sons are so comfortable in the kitchen too!

I really like Paula Deen, because she’s fun to watch and because every recipe of hers that I’ve tried has produced delicious results.

I have to say my favorite chef is Charlie Trotter. That man knows how to cook, and beyond that, knows how to make a meal a true dining experience. I have had been fortunate enough to have dined at his restaurant in Chicago four times and every time I have had my socks knocked off by the quality of food, wine, AND service. He is a real class act. His Charlie Trotter Cooks at Home cookbook rocks as well!

I actually can not say i have a favorite, as i find something i like in all of them and do not steer towards one. i do usually however prefer simple things i can make quickly and locate those within a book

My all-time favorite would have to be Justin Wilson. He was one of the original ones and his stories were legendary. Thanks for the giveaway.

  12. Laura says:

My favorite chef is my husband. He is not a famous food personality and he hasn’t written any cookbooks or appeared on TV but he’s my favorite chef because he adds a personal touch to everything he cooks for me or my daughter.
When were dating he used chives to spell out “I love you” on a pizza he made for me. Unfortunately, I wasn’t wearing my glasses at the time and didn’t notice until he pointed it out to me! He’s also drawn hearts with sour cream on tostadas and made smiley faces out of tomatoes for our daughter.
A great chef, husband and friend!!

  13. Lisa H says:

Paula Deen. I love her recipes. She doesn’t try to make the food fat free and flavor free.

  14. Dee S says:

My favorites are Bobby Flay and Guy Fieri…I don’t actually think I’ve ever tried anything Guy or Bobby have made, I just like to watch their shows! Hope that counts! Otherwise, my friends are my favorite cooks…we love to trade recipes we’ve tried!
