Cleveland Cocktails For Anissa
Published in Widowism by chefswidowLast night my city and my blogging community came together to support a family they have never met.
It was fucking awesome.
I was hella nervous and worried that people wouldn’t show. I was even more worried that I wouldn’t show (my babysitter last minute cancelled), but it all worked out supremely. Miss Genna P came through, saved my night, and hung out with the mini’s while I hosted my first ever fundraiser, Blog It Forward. And funds…we raised!
Blog It Forward started as a way to help a mother going through some really tough shit. When I read about Anissa’s tragedy I couldn’t help but put myself in her shoes.
Blog It Forward was born.
Last night we all gathered for #cocktailsforanissa. The 50/50 raffle went off without a hitch and we raised over $300! The winner, John Heaney of Lime Ribbon donated the $$$ back so we will be sending Anissa and her family the full amount raised. Along with The Greenhouse Tavern’s donation, MVP Valet’s donation, Tartine Bistro’s donation, the 50/50 raffle, and random anonymous donations we raised over ONE THOUSAND DOLLA DOLLA to send to ANISSA & her family!
Boo ya.
This weekend I will be sending the CASH MONEY as well as the cards you all signed, and the disposable (how in the hell do you work these?) camera’s down to her family. Word.
Thank you a million. Cleveland really showed their true colors last night and I couldn’t be prouder! Check out what some awesome Cleveland bloggers are saying about last night’s event:
Life, Liberty, & The Pursuit of Your Boyfriend
The giving is still going people. Team Anissa shirts are for sale and 100% of the profits will be going to the family. You can also send cash money/checks/giftcards directly to the family here.
xoxo bitches.

So wish that I could have been there! Glad to hear that it was such a success. It just goes to show how generous Cleveland is- and the opportunity to eat delicious GHT food helped draw them in, I’m sure!
That’s totally awesome – good job!
Anissa is so very deserving and I hope and pray she makes a full recovery.
Hey, I think the raffle winner was John Heaney of Orange Envelope / LimeRibbon.com.
I was glad to be a part of the action! Awesome! Thanks for the linky love
Great to meet so many cool CLE tweeps IRL and wonderful that there were a lot of people there who said they were new to blogging and/or social media…
It takes courage, compassion & generosity to put on a fundraising event (thank YOU Amelia); it requires a BIG dose of courage for someone to walk into a situation like that as a total stranger (exept for knowing someone on-line). A big welcome to those who mustered that courage!
I knew a lot of my twitter tweeps, but I was excited to meet so many bloggers for the first time, as that is my new big adventure. Thanks for including me!
Let’s do another fundraiser in the middle of dreary Q1 2010!
Thank you all for coming to Blog It Forward. It was awesome to meet and hang out with so many cool peoples. xoxo
had a blast! glad we could help anissa and her fam! glog is too good for words! I was also totally starstruck by meeting Michael Symon!!!:)
It was a fabulous time! I might just start showing up at the Greenhouse every night, for the hell of it.
P.S. I just posted my recap, too.
I’m totally happy that I was able to get out of work and drive up to Cleveland for Blog It Forward. It was great that not only did I get to eat another one of those amazing Ohio Beef burgers, but got to meet up with friends old and new and help out Anissa and her family. Thanks so much for arranging this!!
[...] didn’t take my camera, but there are all kinds of photos (and write-ups) of the night around the net. I met several bloggers/tweeps (for the [...]
What a great fundraiser, wish we could have been there. Sending my prayers her way…
Thanks again for organizing! I’m so proud of us for raising that much cashmoney. Yay Cleveland Bloggers!
It was a great time! I’d met a few people beforehand–John Heaney from the Social Media Club, plus a few from Meetup–but it’s always awesome to be in a room full of bloggers. Crazy, fun, etc.
Hey, maybe we could do more blogger meetups at the Greenhouse. I’m part of a group that gets together once a month and we’re looking for some non-East Side venues. Thoughts?
Sounds fantastic! I’m definitely interested in meeting other Cleveland area bloggers. I’m relatively new to this. Where can I join an online community?
Jen J, I’m in two groups you might be interested in. The one about blogging is the Lake Erie Moose Society (eriemoose.ning.com). It’s an odd name – we recently moved from Meetup to Ning and pulled that name out of a hat. It’s typically 10-20 people at the meetings, half long-term members and half new folks.
The next Moose blogger meetup is actually tomorrow – Monday the 7th at 6:30 at the Barking Spider Tavern near Case. If you read this in time and you can make it, drop on by! I should have posted about it earlier.
For more than just blogging, check out the Cleveland Social Media Club (clevelandsmc.ning.com). There’s discussion of twitter and facebook and anything new that’s coming along.
YOU GUYS ROCK! Thank you so much for supporting the Mayhews! This really means alot
