I agree that I never thought the camera made much of a difference, other than MP. But after Erik and I got the Nikon D5000 I saw a world of difference. I still like having my little pocket camera ( Sony cybershot) for quick trips though.

I am a Canon girl myself. I have a xsi. I LOVE it! The most important thing is to take that camera around with you everywhere, invest in a cute purse/camera bag so that you can feel confident it won't get hurt. A great book to get it Understanding Exposure. (not sure if it was mentioned above or not) And just shoot all the time.

Good luck and I am sure you will have a great time!

I have a Cannon EOS Rebel Digital, and an EOS Rebel that takes the real deal - film. I have shot many beautiful pix on both and have in the last year invested in a huge lens to shoot my daughters playing their sports. My cool Cleveland Heights next door neighbor on RAdnor is a photojournalist and is going to tutor me on the techs, so I can't wait to learn more. I have made my photos into wall art and am soon going to try my hand at making them into t-shirts. Rock on and keep loving that chef!

Totally a Nikon fan! Have the D80 and love it. There are better cameras, but I went with the advice of "buy what feels good in your hands"

Have learned a ton with my new photog classes I'm taking ... depth of field (a/k/a aperture) being my favorite. ... that and learning how to freeze the subject while letting the rest of the frame's motion be captured (put it on shutter priority and set at about 30 ... play around with the exposure a bit and presto)

have fun with the 3000 ... isn't it a monster?
