Airplanes & Poopy Diapers

The chef left for NYC this morning and I must say I am pretty bummed.  It has been more than a year since I have been back to the city I that hold so dear to my heart.  He is filming another episode of DI and will only be gone until Saturday but still...I would have liked to go. Having kids and traveling is hard.  Especially if you are NOT Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt.  Having two kids and traveling by yourself seems impossible.  I remember when my little man was the only child in our family, we flew everywhere.  In the first year of his life he took 7 plane rides.  It was relatively easy but now I could not even begin to imagine.  Plus the cost has skyrocketed.  The seat I would have to buy him, the absurd extra bag charges, and the cost of my sanity alone make me very hesitant to travel alone.

But I've got the bug.  I have always been a gypsy traveler and I haven't been on a plane in a year.  That's tough for me.  Throughout my entire life I have managed to travel somewhere at least once during the year.

I have been contemplating going to Florida for a week without the chef but with the kids.  I am just so damn nervous about flying with two kids.  Not to mention the fact that I have a slight huge fear of flying.

Have any of you ever flown by yourself with kids?  How do you handle it?  Any good tricks I should know about?
